Welcome to Northwood Choral Society. We are a friendly choir of around 30 singers. We rehearse Sundays at 7.30pm at St. John's URC Church, Hallowell Road, Northwood.
Our mission at NCS is to perform around 4 concerts per year mainly from the Classical Oratorio repertoire, but we also have a Summer Concert where we expand our comfort zone and often do something completely different! Our concerts are welcoming and informal and all take place in our beautiful home of St. John's URC Church in Northwood. We pride ourselves on our intention to tell the story of the music and our Choral Director is very keen to develop within us a great understanding of how the voice works and how to interpret the music we are performing. We also put great emphasis on developing and using the talents of the singers and instrumentalists within the group as soloists to enhance our community.
Our Summer Term 2023 will be a potted concert performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's comic opera Princess Ida. The solos will be performed by NCS Members. See here for tickets
Our Director Julie Bale often leads a number of extra events to give our members an opportunity to learn more about the voice and performance. She also leads an online singing community with weekly vocal technique lessons, an online self-paced technique course, masterclasses, a singers' forum, sing/share lessons and much more. Our Choral Director is the renowned voice teacher and conductor Julie Bale. As well as performing choral repertoire, it is part of our mission to enhance the chorister's experience with practical vocal and performance technique playing a regular part of our rehearsals. Although our soloists are sometimes professionals Julie is very keen to encourage and develop the talents of our own members who wish to explore solo roles.
We welcome new members in most sections, for more details about our entrance requirements please see our join us page
